When I made the choice to live in an RV full time, I really had no idea what I was getting myself into. There were four of us going on this adventure…two grown women and two young women. We smartly chose our RV based on the cash we could scrounge up and did not go into debt for our adventure.
We had many discussions about what kind of RV we thought we should purchase. A person could drive themselves crazy with Class A, Class B, Class C, Travel Trailer, 5th Wheel options. Not to mention some of the other less common options like school buses, box trucks and vans. For us, some things were easy to rule out as being too small for four women to live in together without killing each other.
I took the two young women of our party (because of their lack of experience) to quite a few dealerships and we sat in close to 100 different RVs at different price ranges so they could get a feel for what was out there. There is a HUGE difference between a $10,000 RV and a $300,000 one. There are some similarities too. I wanted my traveling companions to understand what we were looking for, and what was possible.
When we finally found our Class A to begin our RV adventures, we knew it the minute we stepped into it. We knew it because we had already asked ourselves these important questions:
- How much can we afford to spend on an RV?
- Do we want to tow a vehicle behind a motorcoach or tow our RV behind a truck?
- Where do we think we will be traveling for the first 1-2 years?
- Can we reach the bathroom and beds while the vehicle’s slides are in?
- Who is going to do the majority of the driving?
- What RV options are most important to us?
- Where will everyone get comfy if it rains for three days straight?
Beyond checking out the mechanical and house systems are working in your RV, knowing the answer to these important questions can help you quickly narrow down your options and step into your perfect-for-you RV.
